After the Chicago Sky (9- a six-game losing streak snapped by trumping their lon pink nike blazers women.time nemesis, the Indiana Fever 60-57 Tuesday night at Allstate Arena, head coach Pokey Chatman gave another little bit of optimism into a season on the verge:
"Elena Delle Donne will "probably" return July 31 against New York (at Allstate Arena), if her treatments and workouts go well."
Sky Head Coach Pokey Chatman, as reported by ESPNW and the Chicago Tribune
Delle Donne was clearly ailing at that time...she was held to only seven points.
Later that week, it was announced that she had been treated for a flareup of Lyme Disease, which she contracted after being bitten by a deer tick at the home of her family in Delaware seve nike blazers women.al years ago.
And nevertheless, delle's still inspiring folks while fighting with her way back to health.
Yesterday, she was to meet at the Dwayne Wade-Brandon Marshall Sports School, 'offering her penetration on the game with the female basketball campers and what exactly is needed to make it like a WNBA player.'
Earlier this season, she was given the 2014 Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award, the highest service award for her work with the Special Olympics, and Lyme Disease research.
Delle Donne, in response, posted this
"It's a honor for the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award. I've always looked around Dawn for her achievements on the court as well as in the community. As an athlete, you are given a tremendous platform to use however you pick. By sharing my personal experiences with Lyme disease, in addition to my sister Lizzie's challenges, I've been able to help inspire and educate others to overcome obstacles that they are faced with. I'm thankful to the WNBA, Special Olympics, Lyme Research Alliance and Trainer Dawn Staley for giving me a path off the court to really make a difference."
But her main job has been challenging this season. In a season that's seen four starters go down with surgeries, injuries and 'private dilemmas' (Delle Donne, Sylvia Fowles, Courtney Vander Sloot and Epiphanny Prince), the Sky still went undefeated for their first four games to begin the season, despite Fowles and Prince being out with injuries.
Why? Credit Delle Donne and Jessica Breland's combination, who is a Hodgkins lymphoma survivor and came in the Indiana Fever this season herself.
Delle Donne and Breland reminded me -to-Michael Jordan organization. That is how good they were together.
But Breland went down with a right leg injury, and since Delle Donne left for treatment, the Sky have endured, going 2- 8 since June 25 (which was a loss). Before Indiana, their last win was a 90-83 victory over Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks on July 1.
It demonstrates all the more my theory when Candace was merely a rookie: At the end of the day, Elena Delle Donne is to the Chicago Sky is what Michael Jordan was to the Bulls when he was drafted....
As among the impossibly talented "Three To Watch," (Brittany Griner, Phoenix Mercury, Skylar Diggins, Tulsa Shock), Delle Donne has had the most spectacular of rookie seasons: She led the Sky to their greatest record ever, making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, and was an unanimous pick for 2013 Rookie of the Year. She was the top Eastern Conference vote-getter because of this year's All-Star Game, which she missed due.
Like Mike?
Delle Donne may not dunk, but Allstate Arena is electrified by her. Like Mike, Elena makes players better. 2012 Allstar Courtney Vandersloot, another number one draft pick, who seems more cozy when the fate of the game is just not in her hands. At 6'5, Delle Donne is an easy target for three-time All-Star, 6'6 center Sylvia Fowles. Unlike Mike, though, she's not stingy with the ball, creating chances for consistent scorers like two-time All-Star Epiphanny Prince.
Like Mike, delle can take over a game when necessary.
As much as she can "Be Like Mike," there are a few differences.
Unlike Jordan, Delle Donne has had to alternate magnificence on the court while fighting what would seem to be nearly insurmountable challenges off-court. Her tight knit family, including a disabled sister, ended up after Delle Donne's family was missed by she too much placing the University of Delaware Blue Hens.
She fought while racking up records on the court draining bouts of Lyme Disease in her sophomore and senior years. As a junior, Delle Donne led the country in scoring, concluding the season with an average of 28.1 points per game. She scored 42 points in a a win eclipsing the 2,000 point mark for her livelihood. During the 2012-2013 season, Delle Donne again fought with Lyme Disease, missing four matches. Delle Donne returned on December 12 and led the team with 19 points and 6 rebounds -53 loss. She scored more than 30 points on five occasions her senior year, leading the Blue Hens to a 27 -3 regular season record, on to an NCAA berth.
He is also the only rookie to average at least 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Delle Donne has been injured more often, and has more humility than Jordan while, Jordan and she carry similar weights and anticipations. And I am predicting, and Delle Donne some point, will forget her fa mens red nike blazers.e . Like this:
It may not be this season. But with the Sky, there is every chance which they will again make the playoffs. Within the last month of regular season play, with Delle Donne back, they may make a run for it.
